Information Sheet on Media and ViolenceThis information sheet was compiled with the purpose of providing research links for those interested in additional information on violence and the media. American Academy of Pediatrics (www.aap.org/advocacy/mediamatters.htm)Contains resources on media violence issues including policy statements, articles, brochures, and links. Center for Media Literacy (www.medialit.org) A not-for-profit group focusing on the education of citizens to access, understand, analyze, and evaluate the powerful images that comprise our mass media culture by providing informative resources. National Coalition of TV Violence (www.nctvv.org) NCTV contains information on how to counteract the effects of violence in the media. Includes helpful rebuttals to many media myths. TV Turnoff Network (www.tvturnoff.org) This organization's mission is to encourage children and adults to watch less TV in order to promote healthier lives and communities. This site provides ideas and additional resources for further examination. American Psychological Association (www.apa.org) Includes public information such as articles, brochures, and press releases regarding media and violence. Baby Bag Online (www.babybag.com/articles/amaviol.htm) Contains fact sheets and bibliographic information on resources covering media and violence. American Academy of Family Physicians (www.aafp.org) AAFP's mission is to provide responsible advocacy for and education of patients and the public in all health related matters. National Institute on Media and the Family (www.mediaandthefamily.org) Focused on the influence of electronic media on early childhood education, the institute provides press releases, research information, and free resources (brochures, newsletters, etc.) |
